I think it is an interesting article and I appreciate the posting...Interestingly I'm finding of late this same scenario repeating itself with many previous "so-called" safe foods becoming un-safe. I have to agree somewhat with the theory that children are no longer defending off the invaders due to variables in the environment or lack of breast feeding. It seems that our precious years are still the prenatal and pre-adolescent periods. If adults are not providing adequate nutrition, rest, treating fevers, etc...more children are becoming prone to these potentially nagging chronic effects to allergens with symptoms from mild (wheezing) to full blown anaphylactic reactions. Maybe along with condoms we sould be handing out epi-pens....?? lol...The seriousness remains. I do believe we are also using too many preservatives in food that go unidentified and possibly carcinogenic. Which leads us into a question? Fresh fruits and vegetables? OOPS, fertilizer...killer tomatoes....there is a balance somewhere and as long as people are hyper aware of their children's behavior patterns this could potentially become very serious. Again it falls in the laps of us, the educators. In the smaller, rural towns where adequate medical attention is unavailable coupled with absence of transportation, they suffer more. What I fear is not the death that could potentially ensue, but the hypoxic conditions to the brain leading to seizures or handicaps for the future of these children...I will say it again and again....we elected a president and I think a good one....but the problems of the world will not be fixed by him....these are our problems(everyone's) and we all need to be a part of fixing these problems. Nurses have a great opportunity in these next four years to make a difference in legislation, I hope those knowledgeable in these various areas take a stand. kiki
