| Description: | This poster shows the black and white picture of a sailor kissing a nurse on the street. This framed poster measures approx. 16" x 20" One of the most famous photographs ever published by Life Magazine was shot in Times Square on V-J Day, taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt. |
This photograph encapsulates the celebration on VJ Day better than any other image or headline. It has attracted quite a bit of attention recently since the sailor has been identified by a forensic artist. Isn't it great that the photo includes a nurse!
I love this photo, it is one of my favorites. These two were strangers, too. That is so neat!
What an awesome moment - I wish I was that nurse!
It's so romantic. We all want to be swept off our feet like this!
I love this. Very romantic.
One PIcture Capturing One Moment Preserved Forever
This is a wonderful picture! I just love it!
That is my dream to be kissed by a sailor or a fireman WOOOOOOh!!!!
To be able to capture the romanticism, the joy...what a powerfully enchanting moment. We have this to hold on to for all the rest of time...so many women dream of being swept off their feet like this picture seemingly depicts, but I have always tried to see things from the sailor's perspective...to be back on home soil, to feel safe, to have survived!!!
for the history!!!
What a wonderful moment in history, V-J day. But were nurse's skirts that short back then?
teamRN
It's a moment in history and in time. It was 1945 and there was just so much jubilation at that time. The end of the war and yes skirts were that short, just below the knee. My mother had dresses that she saved that were just that length.
I absolutely love this photograph. Being a Sailor's (submariner) wife, I know the hardships and loneliness of being without the one you love. In a previous comment it is said that the Sailor was identified, how neat is that! I wonder if the two still keep in touch?
This photo captures an absolutely beautiful moment in history!
THis picture gave me chills. It is very passionate.
this is a classic, I'll never forget the first time I saw and read about this nurse and sailor. WOW!
Ahh ....to be in love. Great picture! Timeless.
Love this pic! Absolutely romantic <3
This picture captures so much feeling. The only way to describe the range of emotion stirring inside when your sailor returns from a deployment is through action. I believe this picture does depicts both the feeling and actions from an extended stay away from a lover.
I love to see this photo!
that is fantastic- i love the black and white and the old skool uniforms.
this is a beautiful poster
This is one of my favorite photos. I wish I could go back in time and able to physically witness this kiss. I see the happiness of everyone on the old videos, and it makes me proud to be an American.
I love this picture....it reminds me of my husband and I.....
This picture is just amazingly romantic!
I feel like I was around during the WWII days...I love the dresses, hair, men wearing suits and hats, getting 'dressed up' to go out, the war, it all just somehow 'fits' me if that makes any sense. I have adored this picture since I saw it, and to this day I love it more every time I see it!! :-)
This reminds me of some of my two oldest friends, both who served in the USNavy during WWII and who have passed away in the last two years within three days of each other from alzheimer's. They shared many wonderful stories and helped me understand what it was like to be young back in the day.
I have this poster up on my wall, and while my husband was in Iraq (at the time we were just dating), when i wondered if we would ever get the chance to be more than just bf/gf, it gave me hope that maybe he would come home and we would get to have a moment like that...
Saw this on all posters.com. Impressive black and white photo. The sailor returns home to greet his love.
this is my favorite pictures of this era
I just love this photo!

I love nursing memorabilia. This is a great picture. I love the black and white effect, nursing uniform but wish she had a cap. I sure miss the nursing cap although I still wear whites.
This is one of my favorites. I sure would to have this poster. I woner what happened to her cap. It must have fallen off when he grabbed her.
This is outstanding. My Mom was an Army nurse, I wounder how many times she lost her cap!!!
