Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has read the article on MSN about the Russian Monument of an enema?  I am concerned with the image of nurses used in the photo.  Here is a link for you to check out.  http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25265056/?GT1=43001

Tell me if you find the image upsetting.  I don't think this is a way for nurses to be viewed.

OMG.. What a joke.  Anyone who is a nurse anywhere in the world knows darn well Nurses don't look or dress like that.

High heels, short lab coats.. black shoes, beige shoes..

the problem is that they tried to get some nurses to stand next to the ridiculous piece of "art"  and not one nurse would do it.  So they hired some hotsy totsy chicks to sex up the enema.  Janet Jackson would've been a better choice.

Sorry, but they do dress like this in the former Soviet Union.

In addition to the photo, my problem with the article is that it refers to "three angels" and not nurses. This perpetuates the stereotype of nurses throughout the world. Nurses are technically skilled, highly educated professionals as well as compassionate and caring.

Has anyone read from Silence to Voice by Bernice Buresh and Suzanne Gordon or Nursing Against the Odds by Suzanne Gordon? Both books are eye openers about sterotypes depicted in the media and nursing socialization. Every nurse should read both!

That is really funny.  They should have put nurses in a whirlwind as the facilities try to cut back on a daily basis. We could have our hair flying and our faces all red and harried. jk

I think that's the same hospital where Mashell4's (Betty Boop's) icon is employed. lol... no hard feelings, i hope?  just trying to picture where else would these "three angels" in heels be employed. Must be Loney Tunes Hospital.

I am currently reading Nursing against the odds, and that's what made this photo really stick out.  If you haven't read the book you should definitely check it out.

They are not referring to the nurses as angels but to the angels that are part of the statue.

That's the dumbest monument I've ever seen!  It looks like a giant sperm surrounded by...oh, never mind!  Now I'm so ticked off I want to slam my computer across the room...oh, I'm at the hospital  ...I guess I shouldn't throw things...maybe I'll go give someone an enema.

Time for a big breath (not breasts), & to kick off my 3-inch work heels (LOL) & let out the indignity...stupidity will always exist.

Real world:  I'm watching an amazingly intelligent BSN student right now demonstrate perfect professionalism in the care of an ICU patient.  I guess we'll survive the sperm/enema monument after all.  Anyone got a some exlax for the creator?

Well considering this is in Russia, not the US and they apparently have decidedly different view points, I'm not going to get my knickers in a twist over this.

How funny! Again, nursing gets an unfair shake, and life goes on. Could you see if MD's were projected in this manner? The AMA would have alot to say I'm sure. I like the way the current TV shows like ER and Greys Anatomy make it look like the doctors do everything and apparantly nurses are there as decoration or some one night stand the docs have to face the next shift they work.I mean really , have you ever seen a doctor start IVs the way they do on ER or Grey's? We need to have a show that focuses on what nurses really do.

It is a silly monument and obviously the nurses there do not have enough to do.
