Welcome to nursing! According to statistics males currently make up 13% of all nursing students. This is very exciting since the current overall percentage of males in nursing is somewhere between 5 and 6%.

Initially you may experience increased pressure to prove yourself compared to your female counterparts. This mindset still exists but is fading. Seek an experienced male nurse that you respect to mentor you.

My husband is also a nurse. He has managed to break down these temporay barriers by demonstrating competence and compassion. My advice to you is be to be your authentic self.  True diversity moves our profession forward.
