Posted 2 months ago All of us as nurses have dealt with many doctors, some good most are jerks who you wonder why they ever picked this profession. Let us come up with some of our own definitions "one" word if possible to describe what doctors are... arrogant A busy RN is here |

| Posted 2 months ago difficult to get along with at times your right not ALL docs are "bad" but unfort the majority seem to be more interested in being short and rude and that puts most nurses off, because we are caring and nurturing. A busy RN is here |

| Posted 2 months ago Char - Great insight! For those who didn't understand my 1-word answer: misunderstood... Some docs do drive me insane! Others I really feel for - while we clock in & clock out, they remain on all day & night. Some don't have the luxury of partners to take call on a rotation & manage it all on their own. Many are being hit hard by reduction in reimbursement & increasing malpractice & other overhead costs. While these are the choices they made & the life they chose, I have spent enough time really talking with some physicians & understand their lives & jobs aren't all sunny. Sometimes, the stress comes out at us. Nothing in my post is meant to excuse bad behavior! There is no excuse for abusive behavior & disrespect in the workplace. In about 90% of the cases of misbehavior I've come across in almost 20 years in healthcare, I can honestly say that positive confrontation was the answer. It usually brought the offender to a place of insight they never had before & the 2 people closer as collegues. But positive, assertive confrontation is a skill we're not taught - neither are they. The other 10% of misbehavers are just JERKS - no matter what their title is! Rant over. |

| Posted 2 months ago Sounding Boards for our ideas....... We can have vision of our patients, but to truely understand what is happening and what is needed in it's whole we need the mind of Doctors who take the time to explain the plan with us...... Some Doctors have no bedside manners... it is up to us to try to bring that out....... Lets face it..... Sometimes we nurses are hard to deal with as well........ Yes I do know that some Doctors are just generally unhappy in life..... but then so are others in this profession..... |

| Posted about 1 month ago to respond to greenergrass, I have some very close friends who are doctors and I have worked side by side with one, and love her to death , but working with her.. i can say she is a b**ch to work with. sometimes and she can say I am too at times, Its our profession, it is frustrating and demanding and scary, and the list can go on and on.. and i know it dont matter with some , there are just some that are truely a b**ch all the time, and this is just who they are doctor or not..... and this is true for nurses too I have met a few that are truely just b**ches. this is who they are nurses or not.... |

| Posted about 1 month ago very true, I have also met nurses that were b***ches as well, but for the most part over all Doctors are more difficult to get along with than nurses if you look at the big picture I think, good and bad in each profession unfor they are in OUR profession and can make life miserable for some. | Posted about 1 month ago children sometimes, I had a patient with a new central line I had just changed the site, patient goes to see doc and his MA removed the sterile drsg and put nothing on it, next day I see pt and put another sterile dsg, I asked the patient to please ask the doc not to have his staff remove this, the pt told the doc this on next visit, the doc said " oh okay, then pulled it off and walked out of the room"! Now the patient gets to pay for 2 more sterile dsg kits, what a jerk and a child! A busy RN is here |
