Hello Everyone,

I have a misdemenor on my criminal record that has been expunged.  I talked to the state board in Ca and they said I will not have much problems getting my state license...I would like to know will it be easy for me to get a job as an RN after I pass my test??

Please any comments will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

IF you have truly had it expunged, why are you bringing it up?  Just curious.

Yes it has been expuged truely, but I heard that with every fingerprinting that is done, every case comes out, even the expunged ones.  I just what to know if I will be wasting my time and money with nursing if I can't land a job...

Thanks

Your FBI background does included expuged charges.  They asked me if I had any when I went to get fingerprinted.  I dont have any criminal record.  You can go online and look up the rules and laws for obtaining a license in your state.  It really depends on what it was i would imagine.  I was told that just because it is expunged it doesnt mean it goes away but i am not a lawyer and not really sure about that.  If it is drug or voilence related you need to be 100% honest with the board to determine if you are eligible.  Sometimes what you dont tell will hurt you.

BE 100% honest when answering employment applications.  You said on another forum it was for theft (shoplifting), if that is truly the case, you should be good to go , and for all practical purposes it didn't happen.  The big ones that could come back and bite you are drug related charges, or assault charges (especially if the assault involved adult vs elderly or adult vs child).  Those type of charges could turn up if your state or employer, requires fingerprinting with background check.   Fingerprints are not usually removed from the files when a record is expunged.
