I am a single mother who's decided that nursing is the career path for me. I already have a BS in Communication Disorders so it appears that the accelerated program may be the best path for me. Based on what I've read so far, it's become clear to me that I should not keep a job once I'm in the program. I have bills that include rent, car note, insurance, utilities, etc... I currently work full time at a retail store and I really hate my job. It's not at all fulfiling. I just no longer see the importance of placing an object to the left or to the right for maximum sale potential... lol...  My question is this... Aside from filling the FaFSA, where can I go for financial aid? I have to cover my expenses while I'm in school and it's the only detail that is stopping me from immersing myself in this new initiative of mine...

Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi,

You could look on nurselink, scholarships.com and other websites for possible scholarships, your local library that has a book on scholarships and grant dollars and even some hospitals offer scholarships/forgiveable loans if you agree to work for them once you are finished.  I hope this helps

Good luck!!!

Your advisor at school can also offer some suggestions as far as where to look, I am sure there are alot of scholarships out there for single moms.  I was going to say, as did browncl, some hosptials will help out with school tuition providing you sign up to work with them.

check out hospital work.  they may pay for school if you agree to work for them after graduating.  nursing homes are good too.

I FOUND A SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM AT MY STATE (ALABAMA) EMPLOYMENT OFFICE.  THEY TOLD ME, YESTERDAY, THAT ONCE I AM ACCEPTED INTO THE NURSING PROGRAM I CAN PROBABLY GET $8,000. IT IS BASED ON YOUR INCOME, # IN HOUSEHOLD, ETC

MAYBE YOUR STATE HAS ONE !
