Everyone should adopt homeless pets if you have room in your home and the time / means to care for them.  After watching the Oprah special on pupppy mills / animal shelters, I will never go to a breeder.  I just adopted a black and tan coonhound mix named Copper form my local shelter.  I found him on www.petfinder.com.   I scooped him up an hour before he was scheduled to be euthenized.  Aw, I couldn't imagine what would have happened to him.  I pray for homeless pets every night! I could  never be a vet... I can't animal suffering!!!!!

Yes, thanks for posting this site. It is heart breaking the number of animals that are put down each year. Why it is so important to have a

thoroughbred   is beyond me. There are so many thoroghbreds in the pounds that have been purschsed by some who had to have the "perfect dog" only to find out that is not the dog for them.

It should be noted for those who want a thoroughbred, they are often FOUND in shelters!

When my daughter wanted a dog, we went to the County Animal Shelter.  Immediately I found a red small standard poodle (a rare and expensive type).  He was the perfect small size for our home, however, there were 5 names on his list for him ahead of mine.  I was never called.  He was snatched up.

The following week we went and found a small, hungry looking Sheltie (Shetland Sheep Dog).  He had a name tag, dubbing him 'BoBo'  but no digital implant.  He has some Border Collie (brown spots on the forepaws and parted back fur), but is an otherwise perfectly marked Br/Blk/White Sheltie.  He was and is the best dog ever.

It's true you won't get papers, but it is the heart of the dog that counts.

<----this is Fred, my Siberian Husky we adopted from the local animal shelter.  We have no idea if he's a purebred husky.  Even if he was not, I wouldn't care.  My other dog, 1/2 pug 1/2 cocker spaniel was also adopted and is a freak of nature.  They are both slobbering and farting  bundles of love.  We buy Febreez alot.  How can anybody love any animal more just because it might have papers?  I have no idea.  I'm proud to say my newlywed son and his sweet wife just adopted a shepherd/collie mix from the animal shelter close to Ft. Bragg, NC, so now i have a grandpup.  If I had a bigger home and fenced in yard, I would be happy to have another one.

We only have one heart, take care of it!

My husband and I often visit the SPCA and Animal control.  I would love to adopt more animals, but a) I don't have the room and b) Sadie my boxer is not friendly with other dogs. She loves cats, just not other dogs.  My sister in law adopted two pit bulls from a resue facility and they are so cute.  Ema though needs a double hip replacement (she is only a year old, but has the hips of a 8-10 yr old dog) so we are trying to raise money to have that done.

I LOVE animals.  My only problem is that usually stray dogs and cats adopt US.  We live in the country and we currently have a beagle that was a stray and took up residence with us.  We are taking care of him for the time.  We have 5 dogs right now, and a full house.  We are ALWAYS willing to help ANY animal in need.  We have even rescued birds and butterflies!
