Please, I'm a liberal and Obama supporter, but I'd like to hear some arguments for why people like Sarah Palin. Don't post unless you have a cited fact to base your opinion on though. Thanks!

Don't you think that's a trifle unrealistic, not to mention unfair? Nobody is asking you to justify your support of Barack Obama with documentable citations and facts. If a person likes and supports a candidate, then they like and support that candidate.
What needs to be factual, citable, and have verifiable provenance are bold assertions like "Barack Obama was raised as a Muslim," or "John McCain doesn't support green, sustainable energy." Neither are true, both are demonstrably false, and both have been bashed about as "fact." Those type of statements need the support of "cited facts."
But if I like Obama, that's my opinion - no citation necessary. And if I support McCain, that is my opinion, too - and I don't need footnotes.
And if I think they both stink like three day dead fish - I get to say that, too.
So if I say I respect Sarah Palin because she at least appears to have the integrity to live her belief system - i.e., she is pro-life, she is accepting the moral responsibility for the choices her daughter has made and integrating the consequences into her family, et cetera - then no citation is necessary.
But if I say she was for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it - well, then it helps to have some facts with which to point.
See the difference?

I have been a democrat for years. I will not vote for Obama. Why do I like Sarah Palin? For many reasons, I do not like wishy washy people, never have never will. She says what she thinks, she is well rounded, she chose not to abort her baby. Actually, I could think of more reasons than I have time to write.
Like most women, she can work and take care of a family. She went against republicans and democrats on issues.
My reference is from watching many news conferences.

McCain and Palin have my vote because they stand up for doing the right thing...just because it's right. I think its funny that Obama supporters have to justify why they want to vote for their man; and require sources for our hopes for this country.. Alot of people vote based on the character of the candidate when issues get so heated and complex. The economy stinks, everybody on the planet knows this, maybe somebody just needs to do the right thing.

Sarah Palin on Civil Rights
Republican
ADA brings expanded freedom to Americans with disabilities
- WHEREAS, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) is one of the most compassionate and successful civil rights laws in American history. In the 18 years since the ADA was signed into law, more people with disabilities are participating fully in our society than ever before.
- WHEREAS, for the last 18 years the ADA has sought to ensure that people with disabilities are respected as equal citizens with equal opportunities: to access inclusive education, achieve gainful employment, and fully participate in the recreational, leisure, and social activities of our communities.
- NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sarah Palin, Governor of the state of Alaska, do hereby proclaim July 26, 2008, as 18th Anniversary of the ADA in Alaska, and encourage public officials, business leaders, people with disabilities, and all Alaskans to pursue the ADA's full promise of equal opportunity and to celebrate the expanded freedom that the ADA has brought to our way of life.

Recognize Juneteenth to celebrate the end of slavery
- WHEREAS, Juneteenth is an annual holiday commemorating the ending of slavery--the oldest celebration of its kind. Its roots go back to June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce the war's end and that all slaves were now free. That news took two and a half years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, which had become official January 1, 1863.
- WHEREAS, today, Juneteenth is a day, a week, and in some areas, a month that is set aside to celebrate African American freedom.
- WHEREAS, in cities across the country, people of all races, nationalities, & religions are joining together to celebrate this extremely important historical event.
- NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sarah Palin, Governor of the state of Alaska, do hereby proclaim June 21, 2008, as Juneteenth Day in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to reflect on the importance of this celebration, and encourage citizens to take part in the events taking place in your communities. HIV/AIDS among Alaska Natives is public health crisis
- WHEREAS, American Indians and Alaska Natives have experienced a long history of a lower health status, which includes a lower life expectancy and higher disease occurrence than other racial/ethnic groups due to inadequate health education, disproportionate poverty, discrimination in the delivery of health care services, and access to quality health care.
- WHEREAS, the spread of HIV/AIDS virus among American Indians & Alaska Natives poses a significant risk to the public health and well-being of these communities.
- WHEREAS, the status of HIV/AIDS epidemic among American Indians & Alaska Natives is a public health crisis that requires a focused national effort as well as tribal effort to bring attention to the prevention needs of Indigenous people.
- NOW THEREFORE, I, Gov. Sarah Palin, do hereby proclaim March 20, 2008, as: Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day in Alaska, and ask the residents of Alaska to observe this day with appropriate programs and activities.

Recognize Martin Luther King holiday
- WHEREAS, as we observe the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we remember the dream of a great man--an American hero--and his message of social change through nonviolence.
- WHEREAS, Dr. King dedicated his life to empowering people, no matter their circumstances, and challenged them to lift up their neighbors and communities. He broke down barriers within our society by encouraging Americans to look past their differences and refused to rest until our Nation fulfilled its pledge of liberty & justice for all.
- WHEREAS, Alaskans will join volunteers across the nation who will celebrate Dr. King's life & teachings by converting the holiday into a day of service, dedicated to meeting community needs.
- WHEREAS, yet more work remains In the words of Dr. King, "We will not be satisfied until 'justice rolls down like waters & righteousness like a mighty stream.'"
- NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gov. Sarah Palin, do hereby proclaim Jan. 21, 2008, as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in Alaska.

Comply with same-sex partner benefits despite disagreement Governor Sarah Palin today announced that, per the recent ruling of the Supreme Court of Alaska, the State of Alaska's regulations are in effect to begin providing state benefits to same sex partners beginning January 1, 2007. "The Supreme Court has ordered adoption of the regulations by the State of Alaska to begin providing benefits January 1," said Governor Palin. "We have no more judicial options. We may disagree with the rationale behind the ruling, but our responsibility is to proceed forward with the law and follow the Constitution."
In addition to adoption of the regulations, Governor Palin signed HB4002 today, which calls for a statewide advisory vote, proposed by the Legislature during its November special session. "I disagree with the recent court decision because I feel as though Alaskans spoke on this issue with its overwhelming support for a Constitutional Amendment in 1998 which defined marriage as between a man and woman. But the Supreme Court has spoken and the state will abide.

Special legislative session on same-sex health benefits Asked about Gov. Frank Murkowski's call for a special legislative session on same-sex health benefits, Knowles said the session is unnecessary. But Palin said the question was not simply about health care benefits, it was an extension of voters' definition of marriage as between a man and a woman. Top priorities include preserving definition of "marriage" Q: In relationship to families, what are your top three priorities if elected governor?
A: 1. Creating an atmosphere where parents feel welcome to choose the venues of education for their children.
2. Preserving the definition of "marriage" as defined in our constitution.
3. Cracking down on the things that harm family life: gangs, drug use, and infringement of our liberties including attacks on our 2nd Amendment rights.

Well since I have a gay brother, it's another reason why I refuse to vote for McCain and Palin. He has a long time partner and wish to be able to have the same rights as everyone else. He knew when he was 5 he was different. He didn't choose to be gay, he was born gay. Every single one of my gay and lesbian friends all say the same thing. This was not a choice, it's who they are.

Why do I like Sarah Palin? Even when she was Governor of Alaska, I liked her. She has stood on the side of integrity and even though it would have been easier for the whole family if her daughter, Bristol, had hidden her pregnancy, gone away or aborted her pregnancy, the whold family has stuck together through what has to have been a hard time for everyone. So, her interity is one reason I like her.
I also like her for her decision-making ability. She's quick on her feet and level-headed. Like every pol, I'm sure there is a decision/vote she's made that she wishes she could ''do-over'
When it comes to being asked if she feels qualified to be the leader of the free world, she is honest and unassuming in her answer that if she AND her family had any doubt about her ability to leae or their desire to be in the spoltight, she wouldn't have accepted John McCain's offer.
I was impressed with her poise on the Katie Couric interview when Katie asked her what magazines she read. She could have blown up in Katie's face; rather she chose not to answer the question that she felt strongly Katie should have known better to have asked. I'm just going to paraphrase, but she was interviewed later and said that she was so taken aback; 'it was almost like you have no magazines 'up there''. Her response was that she read the same as we did, like Time, Newsweek, Business Week, Money.
I like her because she can present herself as incredibly intelligent and humorous at the same time. She's exciting. I like that she chaired the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Comission and stood up to croneyism in Alaska. I also believe that her view on teaching BOTH creationism and evoltution in schools is the right call.

I think that people relate to Sarah Palin because she seems to be an "ordinary person". She has a baby with Down's syndrome and a teenage daughter who is pregnant. She has issues just like the rest of us and that is why I like her. One of the Fox commentators said something like if John McCain would be hit by a meteor and killed would you really want an "ordinary person" running the country. Well I guess I would love an "ordinary person" to run the country instead of a politician.

Amy, I agree. Here's a normal woman with normal family issues (no, the Cleavers weren't real) and there's no reason she shouldn't have a place on the ticket. She's earned it and paid her dues. I can't think of ANY reason not to elect her and I can think of EVERY reason to elect her. Also, if you're playing from the negaitive side, considering the alternative of Joe Biden.
However, I'm so much in Sarah Palin's corner. She's the kind of fresh face in American politics we need to see more often and get rid of those people who've been in Washington since before 'God' UNLESS they are doing a service to this country!
