Posted about 1 month ago Hey all, Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jordan. I live in Toledo, Ohio, I'm 20 years old and I'm in nursing school. Technically I'm not in the nursing program yet but close. I aspire to be a neonatal nurse in a New York City Hospital. I am in the process of quitting smoking because I don't want to be one of those nurses that smoke. I hear that seventy five percent of people in the health care field smoke and I don't understand it. I mean I do because I smoke and it's the hardest thing in the world to quit but come on! Your job is about general well-being and health. I love reading, folk music, and riding my bike. I also really enjoy tattoos. I have half a sleeve on my left arm that I am aware that I may have to cover it up but am obviously willing to do so. so.....HI ! |

| Posted about 1 month ago Hi Jordan, I would like to say hello and welcome to the nursing profession. I have been a nurse for awhile and still love it. With all the problems we are having with the economy, it is great to know that we will always have work. People always get sick!!! Bye for now. Marty |

| Posted about 1 month ago Good for you on the smoking! what worked for me was this method; 1) Smoke normally and figure out on average when you smoke your first one of the day. 2) Then set a date to start and on that day, when you go to smoke the first one, wait 15 minutes then smoke it. smoke normally for the rest of the day. 3) Then on each susequent day add another 15 minutes to the time before you smoke in the morning. Eventually you will be down to the one you smoke last at night. Then you quit it's only one a day right? It takes a while but it works I've been smoke free since 1996. I got it down to 1 at 7pm for about 3 weeks before I finally committed to stopping completely. Don't stop trying and don't get down on yourself if you slip, you will slip. It takes a while for quitting to stick. I tried for 5 years before I got it. I wasn't always serious about it in that time. Persistance is the key here, don't stop trying to quit it will eventually take.

| Posted about 1 month ago I never smoked, but I hear it's hard to kick the habit - good luck! When I was in nursing school our class visited a well known cancer hospital in Philadelphia (Fox Chase). During break time you should have seen all the 18 and 19 year old nursing students right outside the entrance, smoking their heads off! Yukk.... New York City? I grew up near there, fun to visit, but.... Well, to each his own - there are some good hospitals there! |

| Posted 22 days ago Welcome, and good luck on quitting. I agree don't quit quitting. One day at a time. I think we are in the same spot in our schooling. I should be starting my program in the fall. Have a great day. |
