I'm considering pediatrics, and was wondering if I could pick some brains (nurse, not children!). I'm lost going through the vast online resources, and was wondering what some common childhood diseases/conditions are that I might read up on.

It really depends on what kind of peds you want to work in. I have been a peds nurse for about 14 years. I have always worked in general peds, so colds, asthma, strep, ADHD, ear infections, etc. If you are wanting to work in a speciality like peds cardio for instance, you might want to bone up on ASD, VSD or other heart issues. One of my most recent clients was diagnosed with glactosemia. I don't see that one often, so I had to do some research. The key is never stop learning, no matter what field you chose.
