I am convinced that this has been the year of the "superflea". Has anyone else been having this problem? If so, has anything worked to get rid of them? We have an American Cocker Spaniel and he is just covered in the nasty critters! Over the last several years I've seen a few fleas here and there, but nothing like this. He stays inside other than walking on his leash a few times a day and going out with us in the car. Our vet is out of ideas, and we have tried everything short of moving to a new house. We've always used Frontline with great results, but now the fleas seem resistant to it. It's the same with the other flea control meds. Also, we have flea fogged the house and even had an exterminator come out to get rid of them. They're back almost as soon as he leaves. Here's the big kicker...we fogged with Paradichlorobenzene, that kills EVERYTHING in the house, even under carpets and in walls, and STILL had the dang things! AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well on the bright side at least all the flys and spiders are dead! LOL.

That sucks I really , really despise fleas, more than spiders even. Did you shampoo the dog and wash everything? When we had them we had to fog three times and shave the dog so his hair was shorter. But man, if the exterminator couldn't do it, they must be super fleas! So sorry.

vacuum, vaccum We had to vaccum every day to kill the eggs. put flea power in the vaccum bags too.

Wash pet bedding and flea power it. this should help. we live at the beach in the summer and we had hard time controling them.

But this works best I have found.

I'd get alot of extra vacuum cleaner bags..........you have to throw the bag away each time you vacuum often to suck the fleas up becase eggs hatch in the bag then they reproduce or whatever it is they call it.

I also heard <this could be an urban legend> that if you put rock salt in a shallow dish <like a jar lid> and place it under furniture in <like next to the legs of the couch> that fleas will be attracted to the rock salt, and it makes them impotent, sort of like flea salt peter>, also throughout the house in 'hidden spots'.   At any rate, a cheap bag of rock salt might help them little buggers to find a new loveshack..........id risk the $1.50, myself.

We only have one heart, take care of it!

Thank you everyone for the ideas. Unfortunately I have tried everything except for the rock salt thing (but we will be trying that this weekend!). However, there appears to be some hope. Out of desperation I called a different vets office and found out about a product called Capstar. It kills all of the fleas on an animal within an hour (it's a neurotoxin to the fleas). I asked my vet why he never suggested it and he said it wasn't a long term drug (it only works for a few hours) and was useless in his opinion. Well, I bought a box from the other vet and I LOVE it! It's a pill and is safe to use daily if need be until the fleas are gone. I was skeptical, but it works! Every flea on him literally dropped dead and fell off in a little over 30 mins. So I'm going to wait until he gets covered in new fleas (about 2 days) and repeat the Capstar. I'll keep doing it until the nasty little buggars are gone.Hopefully this will break the cycle and we can get rid of them. The only downside (other than cost, which is about $2 per pill) is that the dead fleas get EVERYWHERE. From now on we will be putting him in the bathroom until the pill is finished working so we can contain the mess!

Here is my absolute favorite way of getting rid of fleas.  It's cheap, doesn't harm anything or anyone but the fleas!  Go to the store, buy 20 Muleteam Borax.  Sprinkle the borax liberally all over the carpets, your furniture, etc,  around the parameters of the room especially,  Take a clean broom, rub it into the carpet.  Wait 48 hours and vacuum.  It even smothers the eggs.  Works everytime and if you've ever heard of FleaBusters this is exactly what they use and they charge you $200 plus dollars.
